The Journey

It isn't about the journey but what you learned about yourself along the way, or something like that. What I found out is how little I knew about what is happening out there on the Internet. And I am sure this was just a tip of the iceberg of what is available to make our lives easier, more informed, and efficient. I have to go back through my 23 things because I didn't linger long at any stop and there is much more to explore. What I learned about myself is that I am not as techno-save as I thought and the scary thing is I seem to be following behind weekly. At least I am good for a few months thanks to Library 2.0.
Would I do this again? Absolutely. Would I like more time to explore and experiment? Sure but without deadlines you can miss the train and you can always revisit your favorite stops.
Thanks for putting together this little trip, I know it was a lot of work. But I look forward to your next trip and a little sad that this one is over.

Netlibrary Downloading

I've been downloading Netlibrary titles since I added it to our offerings. However I think it was easier to download to my MP3 player in the beginning than it is now. It is a wonderful thing and when it works I am delighted but it is problematic as your MP3 player gets older. At least that is what I think I have figured out. Overdrive might be easier but it also seems to like the newer MP3 players. That is one of the problems with technology, love it or not you have to stay up with the newest and current upgrades or you soon fall behind.

Podcast of your favorite books

Author on Tour is a podcast offered by the Tattered Cover Book store and it is the best option for those who love authors. Especially authors that are hot at the moment, not just popular authors that you can hear anywhere. I've been using this for months and don't get to visit and listen as often as I would like. These are the full book talks so they can be over an hour long.
I also signed up for Movies You Should See as I want to make sure I am getting the best DVD's for the collection. Interesting stuff and isn't it great that it is being pushed to us.

You tube what fun

If I had the time, say I was retired, you tube would be the best waste of time that I could think of spending. It had me laughing, oohing and auhing in short order. If you have ever watched Ellen Deggenerus(SP) show she is always showing funny clips and a bet this is her source. The guys who invented this deserve every multi-million they got for it...or was it billion?

More Flickr Fun

Well I will try this again. For some Reason this post never saved and I lost it somehow. So I was just saying that as a quasi artist I could spend days looking at all of the fun. At the very least I now have a wealth of pictures at my fingertips for just about anything I would want to paint. The map of pictures was cool the montage was interesting the color scheme wheel is something I need to revisit to see how it works for me in my artist capacity. Now if I could just remember to bring my camera.

Flickr too much to see and too little time to do it. I saved this one for home so that I could play to my hears content. But even then it wasn't enough time. I will need to revisit again. I have some of my pictures uploaded but I want to play around with them and do some of the things that they suggest.
But for now I will just leave you with a picture of Toto's Mom the name of my Blog.

Well I saw things of interest and was a little disappointed that some of the categories didn't have a winner listed but it is good to see they are looking for them. A site to visit for updates. I looked at the two top real estate winners. We are in the process of both selling and buying a house. Although not yet detailed enough for our one house which is in the middle of no where, it was suprising what information was available. I noticed that the ones that I thought would most apply to our job we are already studying as part of our Library 2.0 exercises. Helene did her homework.

This couldn't be easier and is one of the technology wonders that I blogged about earlier. I have used this to work on documents from home rather than worry about saving them to a stick. And look I even added my image that I added in flicker to my blog. This is easier than Word.

What could be easier than making a PeanutButter sandwich.....PBwiki. So easy that I'm am considering making one for our Dept. to use to share fun ideas and experiences or even gossip, oh my what a foreign idea. Nothing serious...I mean fun stuff.
Well I added my favorite vacation destination that is close. Travel is in my future so I am going to reserve the right to change my mind.

I have just started using our new wiki for our SSP's and it is very easy to use and my SSP team is having a meeting today to discuss how we might want to use it as a Team. Some of the Wiki's out there were very interesting. I'm sure I can find some on Collection Management when I have more time. They could give some insights into how we might want to use it in our Dept.

Library 2.0 articles

I read these articles when they first came out. I just re-read them and already they are starting to sound out dated and it has been but a few months. That just goes to show you how hard it is to keep yourself informed in matters of 2.0.
I loved the discussion on the "just in case" collection. It is so hard to get us (librarians) to think in a different way. Finally someone who admits that print circulation is dropping. We're in denial I know but that doesn't make print any less important to those who still love it. We have to make sure we are finding ways to keep those non-print customers happy too. As librarians we tend to look down on those folks, admit it, it's true but they are just as important to what makes us useful to our community even if they never check out a book.

What a great site to find out what is of interest to people of the world at a moment in time. I also like the feature of most popular books. This could be the way to predict what the next great word of mouth (or Blog) book will be.... you know the next "Kite Runner". I could see where I could be completely consumed with reading about what people have to say about things that also interest me. Blogging could become very addictive, not to mention narcissistic.

Bookmarks on the go is what I think Del.cio.us does for me. Now I no longer have to think of the web addresses for the things I have bookmarked on my work computer. It will make it much easier working from home.
Yet another way Library 2.0 is making my life easier..... can we find a way to exercise online and lose weight, that would really help too.

What a find. I have added all of the websites that I search regularly for books to be added to the collection and it works. I am going to have all my staff do the same thing. What a time saver, and to think I didn't even know about this. What else is out there that I don't know about that will save me time. Bring it on!

RSS Feeds

Well I love the RSS feeds but I wish they had them for the things I am interested in. I need to track Oprah, radio shows and such to get the lastest books they are discussing without having to look them up and they don't have RSS feeds. So I'm still looking for some that would make life easier but I'm sure I'll have a whole list before I know it and get rid of others.

Technology and Me

I have several things that I am excited about and just wish Ihad more time to do. That is one of the reasons this program is so interesting to me. The thing that I am the most impressed with rigth now but haven't tried yet is the Writely.com internet site that allows you to work on documents similanteously with other people. I have had need of just this sort of thing several times and I am sure with the SSP projects we will utlilize this often in place of an actual meeting or at least I hope so. I'm looking forward to it.

Problems finding a blog name?

Anyone else have trouble finding a blog name that wasn't already taken? I tried all my favorite things but to no avail. You have to be creative that is for sure. I was determined to not make my name work related. I want my blog to be fun, reflect my personality...at least this first blog.

My husband travels internationally and when people ask him what he does he used to answer what he did in his job but they always answered with what they did for fun. So I am what I do for fun not what I do for a job.
